I haven't been to a Sci-Fi convention in a long time, and I got a crazy idea in my head that maybe going to Dragon Con in Atlanta over the Labor Day weekend would be a blast. Take the train, use a sleeper car wherever I could. Get a nice hotel, taxi to and from, punch Robert L. Aspirin in the face for old times sake (what a cunt) just do the deed.
So I went to the Con's web site, and Amtrak's, and opened up MS Calculator, and began to tote up time and cost...fuck me, it's a hundred hours one way on a train. And then I gave up when the total cost began to spill over $4,000 dollars (they add nearly $400 to an already $300 ticket if you want a sleeper car) and I felt a little blue.
Even more so, when it hit me that there are normal, non-rich people out there who could slap down a credit card and cover the whole thing. Easy.
It sucks to realize you suck.
Oh well, I guess I'll check out the Cons here in Oregon. I can always sleep in the car.
